Book Review: Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

Tuesday, February 26, 2019

Soooooo, I didn't love this book. I just kept reading hoping it would get better, but it never did. Here's the review I wrote on Good Reads.

** spoiler alert ** This book was like having afternoon tea with someone who keeps giving you long backstories about "the good old days" when you are just asking where the sugar is.

The idea of clones who are created to be donors for others is really interesting, and I think a lot more could have been done with it. It raises interesting questions about artificial intelligence, what defines a soul, humane treatment, classism, etc. But, this book fell too short for me with it's winding backstories that seemed to lead to no important end point.

I read the whole thing, thinking there would be some big twist or reveal at the end, and there never really was. All the new information we learned, while interesting, was presenting in a very emotionless way that fell flat for me.

Overall, great idea, but poorly executed.
