Slow Mornings

Thursday, February 28, 2019

Today was good! I only had a few clients and they were later in the day. So, I was able to have a nice slow morning drinking hot chocolate and watching my shows. I have to say, I am not loving True Blood as much anymore. It is just getting kind of weird and boring and the conflicts right now aren't interesting me as much! so, I might have to find a new show to watch.

A Day Off

Wednesday, February 27, 2019

Today was good! I had a dentist appointment and had 3 cavities FML but also they had this toothpaste that I can use so my teeth don't suck as much, so hopefully that helps!

Afterward I went to Bean's and Brews (they have the best hot chocolate) and also tried their cinnamon roll which wasn't too bad! I had a phone interview for a job in Seattle while I was there and it ended up going well and I have a second interview next week. Wish me luck!

Also of note today was me finding my earring that I lost a few weeks ago! It was a small diamond stud that my grandma gave me years ago that were hers, so they were sentimental and I was soooo happy to find them again!

J and I got Zao for dinner and it was v good! I talk all the time about Localfluence, but if you haven't already signed up for it you need to!

Here's my happy list for today: Finding my earring / A client cancelling for tomorrow so I get to go home early / Watching RBG (she is so awesome!)

Book Review: Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

Tuesday, February 26, 2019

Soooooo, I didn't love this book. I just kept reading hoping it would get better, but it never did. Here's the review I wrote on Good Reads.

** spoiler alert ** This book was like having afternoon tea with someone who keeps giving you long backstories about "the good old days" when you are just asking where the sugar is.

The idea of clones who are created to be donors for others is really interesting, and I think a lot more could have been done with it. It raises interesting questions about artificial intelligence, what defines a soul, humane treatment, classism, etc. But, this book fell too short for me with it's winding backstories that seemed to lead to no important end point.

I read the whole thing, thinking there would be some big twist or reveal at the end, and there never really was. All the new information we learned, while interesting, was presenting in a very emotionless way that fell flat for me.

Overall, great idea, but poorly executed.

Process Painting

Monday, February 25, 2019

So I started a process painting and I am so excited! A process painting is something used in art therapy. It's about making the experience of painting more important than the outcome. It's really good for perfectionism! Anyway, I am going to photograph each painting as it continues to transform.

Also this vegetarian bacon is the best!

We went to Swig after dinner and watched our shows. We have a pretty basic life haha.

Here's a happy list for today: Doing a process painting / Trying new things at Swig / J going off on a men's body positivity rant while naked hahaha

Sunday Funday

Sunday, February 24, 2019

Today was good! We did a little date day since J was gone yesterday with friends.

We went and saw Happy Death Day 2 U which I really liked! We were the only ones in the theatre for the first little bit and it was so scary ahaha. Also, have you guys seen the trailer for Us?! It's from the same people who made Get Out and it literally looks sooooo scary!!

We also went to Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. I was sad they didn't have the macadamia nut bears (they are so good) but they did have seafoam. It's this weird honeycomb thing that is actually soooo good.

Here's a happy list for today: Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory milk chocolate sea foam / Sleeping in and not going to church / Seeing Happy Death Day 2 U

Book Review: Roadwork by Stephen King

Thursday, February 21, 2019

(Guys, look at Tucker's face in the bottom picture hahahaha.)

Ok, so I am slowly but surely reading the Stephen King books in the order they were published! I stopped reading Stephen King for a little while, but picked back up with Roadwork. It was so good! Here's the review I wrote on Good Reads:

This is a great and quick read! The plot is simple: A man resistant to change falls into a state of self-destruction.

The book starts off with a relative sane (but mad) Bart Dawes who has to relocate his work and home due to the expansion of the interstate. Then, as time goes on, we see Bart unravel and become increasingly self-destructive. It's memorizing in that "can't look away from the train wreck" sort of way, and you find yourself questioning how far he will really go. Overall, it was a fascinating story of the effects organizations have on the little guy and just how angry some of those little guys can get.

The next Stephen King book I am on is Cujo! I am excited for it!

Arizona!

Saturday, February 16, 2019
So we went out to Arizona for J's cousin's wedding on Saturday and it was really fun! The flight itself was pretty scary, just because it was so snowy and it took a while for the plan to be ready to take off. Oh, and then the flight was pretty turbulent, like so much so that they didn't serve us drinks haha.

But, once we got there it was fun! I was able to meet up with my friend, Beverly, who I have been online friends with for probably 10 years! Whenever we are in the same state we try to meet up! This time, we got In N Out, went to Barnes and Nobles and got gelato! It's always so fun to meet up with friends!

Here's a happy list for today: My mom getting home 5 minutes before the storm hit / Clients cancelling / Getting unlimited lives in Candy Crush on the flight to Phoenix / J's scout telling us "Nice garage you got here" lol

Valentine's Day

Thursday, February 14, 2019
Valentine's Day was so good this year! I didn't have to go to work until later in the day, so I cleaned the house and made some cute chocolate covered strawberries while watching Supernatural.

When I got home from work J and I did our little celebration. He brought home sweet and sour chicken and fried rice which was SO GOOD. And then the heart Krispy Kreme donuts!

We watched Warm Bodies in bed and it was so fun! I watched it before, but it was one of those movies that has been like 5 years since I had seen, so I kind of forgotten how it went haha.

Overall, it was a v fun and chill Valentine's Day!

Book Review: Sunburn by Laura Lippman

Wednesday, February 13, 2019

I finished Sunburn by Laura Lippman last week. (Warning, this post may contain spoilers!)

It's about a man and a woman (Adam and Polly) who meet at a tavern in a small Delaware town. Adam is a private investigator who was sent to investigate Polly, who had left her second husband and daughter just a few days earlier. Adam's employer is convinced that Polly has a bunch of money hidden away somewhere from the insurance settlement from her first husband, who abused her and she killed in his sleep. Adam's employer warns him about Polly's charm and to not fall for her, unlike all the other men who have come across her. Throughout the book, you learn more about each character and the secrets they are keeping. There are also deaths that leave you questioning who the characters truly are.

Overall, I would rate this book a 4/5. I thought the premise was really good, but I honestly feel like the entire book could have been written about Adam potentially falling in love with Polly. The idea of a dangerous woman being able to woo this really smart private investigator is really good, and I wish the whole book would have been about that. However, early on in the book Adam ends up falling for Polly, which I found a little too easy considering he is supposed to be very smart.

The rest of the book is focused on Polly. The mysteries are whether or not she does have money in hiding and whether or not she murdered one of her coworkers at the tavern. For whatever reasons, neither of these mysteries seemed very interesting to me.

(Spoilers!) In the end, we discover that Polly does, in fact, have a bunch of money. Although Adam's boss doesn't get any of it because he conveniently goes to prison and dies. And then Adam gets shot during an altercation with Polly and her second ex-husband. Which also seemed like a convenient death to me. Polly ends up regaining custody of both of her children and having a happy life with all of her money. I wish she would have been the one to shoot Adam, or that she would have gotten caught. It just seemed like everything conveintley worked out for her, and I would have liked her to either go to extremely disturbing lengths to get what she wants, or for her to not have gotten what she wanted. (Spoilers over.)

Anyway, overall it was a good and quick read, I just wish it would have been little beefier and juicier!

If you read it, let me know what you think!

Outfits + Fam Reading Night

I have been trying to dress fun again (grad school killed my style) so here is this! I linked everything at the bottom, except for these shoes which are from Posey and Pence. I love the sass I feel when I wear hoop earrings haha.

Ok so pretty much the only fashion blogger I follow these days is @bresheppard and her recommendations are amazing! She posted about these scrunchies that are amazing. You get 20 for $10!

I also started a new book! You can read the reviews and synopsis here. It was written by Stephen King under his pseudonym Richard Bachman. The intro is really interesting because Stephen King talks about how his books are different from Richard Bachman's and how he felt when people felt out it was him lol. I actually have finished this book since writing this post and I would recommend it! I love Stephen King books anyway, but this one I felt like was a quick and fun read.

Galaxy Nails + Home Decor

Sunday, February 10, 2019
Ok so these galaxy nails are not my favorite I've every done haha. But they do look ok from far away!

I watched Supernatural while doing these and I really like that show haha. I am having to go back and rewatch because I checked out for a while and the had no idea what was going on, but now that I am back into I am once again a fan!

So I have been loving following @nestingwithgrace! She was actually in our church congregation in Connecticut so I am weirdly late to following her haha, but she has the cutest home and the best interior design tips! I did a little around-the-sink revamp the other day with some tips I got from her! You can get a little cake stand for your soap and it is so much cuter! I got this one at the Target dollar section for $5. And then I love the look of twinkle lights, so it put them around the window and it's all so much cuter, I think.

Also, in case you are looking for a basil plant that will actually stay alive, GO TO MACEY'S IN HOLLADAY. They honestly have the best! Then put it in a sunny area and water every day! (Also lol J in the window 😂)

Bakers R Us

Saturday, February 9, 2019

Saturday was super chill! I tried two new recipes. This one for the muffins was super good but I wasn't a huge fan of the general tso's cauliflower. Mostly because I don't love general tso's sauce, I think. I want to try making it again with a sweet and sour sauce, or something similar.

I love having Saturdays with absolutely nothing planned!

Trying New Treats!

Friday, February 8, 2019
Ugh I wrote out this whole post but then it didn't save or publish because I put <3 in the title haha. So, I'll be short!

Friday we tried Tru Fru for the first time! I got contacted by them to try their frozen berries in exchange for a review on my food Instagram, which was so funny because going to Harmon's to try them was literally on my to do list for Saturday! I have wanted to try them ever since I saw Utah Grubs post about them, but I couldn't find them at a lot of stores. So, once I saw they were at Harmon's I added them to my list and then karma worked in my favor haha.

Anyway, they are so good! My favorite are the milk chocolate raspberries left out for like 20 minutes so they are juicy and not as frozen on the inside.

Harmon's also has dog cookies that are so cute!

Andddddd that was our Friday night! I'm sure we watched something, I just can't remember what! We are still working on Dexter, but I have been wanting to watch more movies lately.

BRB

Thursday, February 7, 2019

Thursday was uneventful. I don't have work until 12:00pm and I love taking my mornings so slow. I have been trying to get back into having fun with style and getting dressed. I feel like grad school and moving to the northeast sucked all my energy with that stuff and now that I have time I want to get back into it, because it is so fun to wear fun outfits and do hair things.

I love doing these braids but it's also so hard to see how they look in the back hahahah. The side always looks better than the back! Alas
