11.17.18 - Thanksgiving Celebrations!

Remember how I have hated Thanksgiving for as long as time? (Here are a few articles I skimmed that may help you find out why: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Sorry in advance if there is anything oppressive, I just skimmed them!)

So, this year we opted out of Thanksgiving and went to eat at Black Sheep Cafe the week before! It's a Native American restaurant in Provo that is SO GOOD. I tried the cactus pear lemonade, honey lavender fry bread, and green chili pork taco. All of which were very delish!

Ok so I feel like I always say this, but I am really trying to do more like, nice camera photos. Basically what happened is I had that stint with influencing but then finished grad school and was all like, "I just want a normal job" and moved to Utah and essentially stopped taking any nice camera pictures. It was fine for a bit, but I honestly missed like the creative aspect of influencing, like planning out a cute shoot and photographing and editing. Not so much the selling to my friends hahaha.

ANYWAY. Basically I have been really bored and just feeling bleck, so I figure I might need to do photography again, just for the sake of having something to do!

Last weekend we tried a new food place, Ramen 930. It was pretty good! J thoughts his chicken and rice bowl was better than CupBop WHAT! It was actually pretty good, I thought. But I will never get over that tofu bowl from CupBop and the fact they don't have it any more (😢).

The Real Reason I Will Never Move Back To Utah

Writing these long, heartfelt posts is so hard for me haha. I always feel like they end up unorganized or too personal for the internet, and then I delete them. So, however this turns out: I'm keeping it.

(Also, this is very censored, so if you want to know specifics just message/text/email me. I don't bite.)

- - - - -

For the longest time, I have tried to explain to people why I don't like living in Utah. It has NEVER gone well. Most of the time I just come off sounding like a jerk and unintentionally offending people. (Duh, Emmy. You can't complain about living in Utah to people who have chosen to live in Utah.) So, I eventually started bottling up all my feelings and thoughts and resenting those around me for not being easier to talk to. However, now I realize I just wasn't phrasing it in the right way. So, here goes. This is the real, honest, blunt reason I don't like Utah and will never move back:

I can fit in, but I don't belong.

Fitting in is the ability to observe your surroundings and be who you need to be. Belonging is the ability to be your true self and be accepted for it.

In Utah, I became The Master Of Fitting In.  The problem with being The Master Of Fitting In is this: IT'S EXHAUSTING. Can you imagine being at a fancy dinner party where you have to be on your best behavior for 40 hours a week? Ugh. No thanks! I knew I was different from a lot of the people around me when I was 16. I became more and more irritated and tired of "social events". It wasn't because I didn't love the people who were inviting me, it was simply because I couldn't be who they wanted me to be. I felt like they wanted Charming Emmy, and not the real Emmy.

Sometimes I can give people Charming Emmy. Sometimes it's fun and sometimes I have the energy to be her. But, after living in Utah for so long and having to channel her so much, I just stopped having the energy. I started being myself more.

Since moving to the east coast, I can finally say I belong somewhere. (There are other places I could belong too, probably!) And it's just a great feeling. I don't want to get into the specifics of what's different here than in Utah, but I just feel like I can be who I am here and no one cares. A safe example is makeup: In Utah I would NEVER go out without makeup. Here, I go out without makeup alllllll the time. You can walk around in sweats and no one looks twice because they don't care haha.

It's been the greatest thing to know that I can just be, ya know? I feel so free. Which sounds corny and stupid, but it's true. I am just free to be who I am, who I've always wanted to be.

And that's the greatest feeling in the world.

Life Lately

So I have been back on my book challenge just here and there. My friend lent me this book and it's seriously the cutest thing! 10/10 would recommend so far.

I also got admitted to an art show (Beehive Bazaar) and have been creating some new stuff! I am so excited for this Amelie series haha. This is my little mood board that I'll make digital prints from!

I went to a craft night at my friend's house and we made these wreaths! I have yet to hang mine up haha but it smells nice! We also watched the midterms and I am so happy democrats took back the house at least! Lol Trump saying he will be in "warlike posture" if they investigate him hahaha.

J brought these back for me from his business trip, how cute! (Also soft centers or go home.)

Being Haunted And Other Shi

Do you remember those apple cider donuts I posted about while we lived in New England? (While I was finding that link I also found these maple donuts from Vermont that were LITERALLY SO GOOD.) Well, basically apple (cider?) donuts are this big deal in New England and are everywhere, but in Utah they are quite literally no where.

Rowley's Red Barn makes them on Saturdays in November, so naturally we drove the hour south to get our hands on apple cider donuts (and to try their apple slush). We invited my mom and sister to come along too and TURNS OUT THEY DIDN'T HAVE THEM!

I guess the lady who usually makes them just didn't show up to work that day? So they called someone else to come make some but she only made so many and they were sold out by 1:00! If only that Apple Donut Lady knew how many people traveled long and far to eat her donuts lol.

So we just got the slush and some cider (they have the best cider) instead! When I invited my sister I told her I wanted to take pictures, meaning just like of life in general, but she thought I meant of myself I think lol. So she brought some clothes from her boutique for me to model haha. It took me back to my high school days where we would do photoshoots and she would edit them haha. Those are some funny pictures! I will have to have my mom send them over and post them. There is one where I am unknowingly wearing lingerie 😂 I thought it was a dress!

The Last Of The Random Pics

Ok so long story short I need to reclaim my happiness and things that make me happy haha. As much as iPhones are convenient, they aren't as fun to edit as my nice camera photos so I am making a conscious decision to do more nice camera photos. I did a lot when I was influencing, and I think I felt like I had to stop influencing and nice photography at once? Idk. It all got lumped into one but you know what? I LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY and I have super missed not having a lot to edit, so I am going to take more pics for my own sake!

Anyway, these are the last of the random iPhone stuff I've had sitting on my phone for forever! Basically there is tons of Tucker being cute, per usual.

Things Lately: Continued

I really do have so many pictures to post lol.

So it's been getting colder and I've been keeping our thermostat low because I love to wear sweaters/be cozy, and I came out of the shower the other day to see Tucker all cuddled in our bed lol.

It's sad because he wants to lay with us on the couch, but doesn't quite fit. We do our best.

GUYS THIS DAY WAS AMAZING. I was making myself shrimp with penne and Alfredo sauce, and I cut the recipes hoping they would make enough that I didn't have any leftover (I don't like eating leftovers) and it made THE PERFECT AMOUNT OF FOOD. It was the coolest thing lol.

I deleted the picture of my burger, but we went to Hires and I got this garden burger that was basically a hamburger without the meat and it was so refreshing? J was like, "Wow, I'm glad you thought it was so good because honestly it didn't look that good" 😂

We did our first escape room with friends a few weeks ago! I didn't know there was like a zombie inside that is trying to attack you while you are trying to solve the puzzle? It definitely made it more intense. We went to Get Out Games in Salt Lake and this was the zombie lol. She was attached to a chain but also the chain got longer every 10 minutes. She was nice though and gave us some hints because we didn't do too well lolololol. Also I asked her to put my coat on the coat rack and she took my phone out of my pocket and took a bunch of selfies haha. We either almost won or almost lost depending on how you look at it? Like the timer went off and then she got off her chain and started jumping around, basically about to *kill* all of us, but a few seconds later we figured out the code to get out of the room? So I choose to think we lost, but just barely lol.

I really want to try one of the other escape rooms where there are like different level rooms? If you have done any that are fun let me know!

So also, my friend @bevhoupt does the CUTEST portraits! I bought one for J for Christmas but it was too cute to wait so I showed him early haha. Anyway, if you want one just DM her on Instagram and she can give you more info!

This was another book I read for my reading challenge before work got so busy. This was such a good book! I'd definitely recommend.

Also if you read a lot, I'd highly recommend this book stand! It's a hand cramp preventer for sure.

The elevator at my therapist's office is so neat. I also always get Beans and Brews hot chocolate on Wednesday mornings and am realizing their reward program is so good? Basically you get a point for every $1 you spend, but they often have promotions where you can get double points, quadruple points, or like today you got 60 points with a purchase of $5 or more! So it basically ends up with a free drink every 3 drinks you buy, which is a pretty good deal IMO! Not to mention they have the best hot chocolate in the world, and I say this as someone who has tried A LOT of hot chocolate.

J has been taking a GMAT class and studying hard! It will be nice for him to be done with it because your score is good for 5 years. Cool huh? I am glad I never had to take the GMAT for my grad school lol.

I mentioned it has been colder and Tucker has been so cozied up. He now sleeps on the couch all curled up and it's so cute.

So I have been doing that "does it bring me joy" thing with my closet and getting rid of a ton of stuff. It's weird how your style changes over time, isn't it? Anyway, I decided to budget $50 a month to get some new stuff that I actually like and last month I got these two sweaters from ASOS (here and here). They were only $20ish and so far I love them!

I basically got one of my part time jobs to go down in hours so now I have more time to post all these! It's crazy how much work and environment can affect your well being if they are negative and/or out of balance!

Things Lately

Now that I have finally posted all my Europe pictures I can post all the other stuff that has been going on lately!

I am really liking our house and neighborhood. There are so many tall, pretty trees and the sunset is right on our porch. It has also been pretty overcast lately which always cheers me up.

Tucker does this new thing where he rests his head down and just looks at us until we pet him lol.

I got some Stroopwafels at Van Wunderen in Amsterdam and they are so good! I have been eating them with the Ghirardelli cocoa and it's a match made in heaven. Also, I love being up early on Saturday mornings when the sun is just starting to rise!

OK. So this soup recipe is SO GOOD. I have probably talked about it before. My mom and I made a huge bath and froze it with dinner rolls a month or two ago and I just finished it this past week. It was so good. Highly recommend if you like delish dinners but work full time/don't have time to make them.

We also went on a hike to try to appreciate Utah and decided that we need to stop trying to like hiking, because we just don't lol. I mean the fall colors were pretty? But I am more of a green type of person.

Tucker strikes again with the head lay. Please keep in mind he only stays like this for a few seconds and then goes back to his crazy self.

I love his little cheeks when I give him a cookie in the morning lol. Also I got eyelash extensions  for a few months (although I don't have them anymore) and they were seriously so nice to have! I went to @haileeday and she is seriously the best. I always fell asleep though and my eyes would like roll open lmao so embarrassing. Lately I have been so tired? Like I literally fell asleep at 8:00pm the other night. Idk what's going on!

I also tried to do a reading challenge but got WAY too busy with work and had to stop. But basically I am going to see how many books I can read in the same amount of time I spend doing worthless stuff on my phone. I read 7 in the first 2 1/2 weeks!

This was thai food I spent $20 on via Uber Eats that wasn't even that good ughhhh

This book was so good and such a quick read!

I really liked this one as well.

I have yet to finish this one, but it's good so far. I realized I have actually read it before but it was too long ago to remember what happens.

We also got family pictures done with J's side and went to The Pie afterward where I tried these vegan wings?! Like they were so good! If you are vegan/vegetarian, you need them!

I have a bunch more pictures I will post when I have more time!
