Living My Best Life

GUYS. SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION!!! LIFE HAS MEANING AGAIN! I thought I would love having two days off my internship, but I actually really missed my classmates and felt like it was too much free time.

I basically spent my break living in these velvet pajamas you have all been going crazy over on my Instagram (click here for the link) and watching lots of T.V. (current Quantico, Riverdale, The Path, Bachelor, and Colony season 2... I am a T.V. junkie lol). I also made some pretzels which was so soothing. I love trying new recipes and having a show on in the background. It is one of my favorite ways to destress. I just ordered a donut pan to make donuts this weekend and am v excited! If you have any fave donut recipes def let me know!

I also tested a bunch of new products! Here's what I thought of them:

1/ Ofra Makeup Fixer Setting Spray - I have been liking this a lot! I mainly love that the bottle is so huge and the mist comes out really evenly. It's so weird to think that I used to not use any setting spray lol.

2/ Becca Moonstone Highlighter - My sister gave me a little sample kit of a bunch of highlighters and I have been really loving this one! It goes on really well and has the prettiest sheen. And it's vegan and cruelty free!

3 / Zoya nail polish - I am loving this color and this color. Every year Zoya has a huge sale for Black Friday and I stock up haha. They have the best nail polish because it is natural and toxin free! Definitely try it if you haven't yet.

4/ Coconut oil chapstick - So my lips went through a weird dry spell and I decided to try to use a waxless chapstick. I didn't realize how hard it was to find chapstick without wax! I bought this one but ended up not loving it. It dries really fast and I like it when I can rub my lips together like an hour after putting chapstick on and can still feel it. So, if you have any recommendations for really nourishing chapstick, let me know!

5/ HSI Argan Oil shampoo and conditioner - I have been loving this shampoo and conditioner! It feels pretty on par with the other shampoo and conditioner I use, but I love that it has Argan Oil in it because I usually add that to my hair after anyway. My only qualm with these are that the pumps don't pump a lot of liquid out at one time, so I have to pump it about 4 times to get all the shampoo and conditioner I need (I use a lot haha). Side note: I cut my hair like a foot as you may or may not have noticed. It has been a fun change and I feel like it looks good, but I think my longer hair was easier to do, ha! So I don't think I would go this short again, but it is fun to know what it feels like to just chop it!

6 / Tarte highlighter - Another very good highlighter! It's also vegan and cruelty free. I switch on and off between this and the Becca one listed above.

The One Where I Got Traumatized At A McDonald's

Yesterday we took Tuck to the dog park. It was soooo muddy. It was muddy again today, actually. But hey, you gotta do what you gotta do! One of my favorite things to do right now on Sundays is get treats from the Goodwill vending machine and then drive around. (Also, I took this picture right when J was telling me a story about a mean guy lol. That look of disgust!)

Where we live in Connecticut, there aren't a lot of... scenic drives? I guess? Like in Utah we would always drive up the canyon into the mountains. Here they have a beach by us, but everything else is pretty residential. So we just end up driving by really nice houses haha. But yesterday I couldn't remember the way we usually go, so we kind of just drove random places. (Creepily enough at one point we popped out RIGHT next to the dog park, which is why we took him haha.)

We ended up finding this really pretty wooded street! I think it was called Staples street? It was in Easton, if anyone wants to go.

I didn't get a picture of the both of us, but we both wore camo hahaha. I just got this camo set (from here, for those who have been asking on IG) and I am IN LOVE. It is so soft and fits perfectly. I want to get more pajama/sweat sets.

Also can someone please be proud that I continued to take pictures after I saw a runner coming my way?

Like, so pretty, right?!?! I always feel so awkward having J take my pictures, even though we've been married for 4 years lol. Just me?

I don't actually have social anxiety or anything, but I am probably on the spectrum somewhere haha. Like I feel so uncomfortable doing the most random things, like having to push a regular sized grocery cart in the grocery store. Omg wait I have to interrupt myself to tell a story that I can not forget because it was CRAZY!!!

Ok so we were at our second McDonald's getting drinks and I was just making an Instagram video to be funny (because were at our SECOND MCDONALD'S). So I was recording J get his credit card back from the girl and drive to the next window. The girl at the next window saw my phone and immediately said, "I don't consent to being recorded!!" and I said, "Oh I was just recording the sign." (I obviously panicked haha.) And put my phone down, but I had stopped recording so it was playing the video I had just taken. She was like, "I can see myself on your phone. I don't consent to being recorded!" And so I was like, "Oh ok, I'll delete it." And she just stood there and stared me down. I wasn't about to be like, "See?? I deleted it!!" Because I just felt like it was such a weird request and the video I was taking was about the drinks, not some slam video about McDonald's employees haha. So she just stared me down and then we drove off....

IS THAT NOT THE WEIRDEST THING YOU'VE EVER HEARD?!?! Like first of all, I am an adult woman here with my husband, not a teenager who is trying to prank you for YouTube. Second, can you just like, say it nicer? Like I've heard, "Sorry, you can't record in here!" before. But this was NeXt LeVeL you guys. Like she was PISSED I would dare take my phone out in the McDonald's drive thru and get her in it haha.

Please keep in mind I am from Utah where people are like, SO NICE. We moved to New York where people are so mean, and then to Connecticut where people aren't as mean as they are in New York, but definitely not as nice as people in Utah. It just bums me out to have such negative experiences with strangers all the time haha. It kind of makes you feel unwelcome? Or like you are doing something wrong? Like I will most likely never record anything for Instagram stories in front of a stranger again ahah. #scarred.

If you can shed some light onto why this girl was so mean and adamant about me not recording her, please let me know. Because I am SHOOK at this moment and feel super bad. Like I broke someone's personal boundary or something. If I was like, Zoella or something I could understand. But I am literally just some random girl trying to make jokes about herself on Instagram? So, plz shed some light onto what happened in this situation. Needless to say I will never go back to that McDonald's haha.

(P.S. I am literally writing this post in the bathroom because Tucker is being so annoying.)

2017 Year In Review

January/

We got scammed with fake bills lol. It was the first time for both of us!

I started working at an eating disorder treatment center, and thought it would be a good idea to not restrict any aspect of my diet. So I broke my vegetarianism of 7 years with a McDouble and people on my FB could not handle that I broke it with McDonald's lol.

I started social work grad school at NYU! My first two semesters I took the train from Milford, CT. It was a 20 minute drive to the Metro North station, then a 1 hour and 45 minute train ride to Grand Central, and then took a 15 minute subway ride to Washington Square Park, and the a 5 minute walk to class. So, it was essentially a 2 1/2 hour commute each way. My first semester I only did this once a week, and the second semester I did it twice a week. Looking back it seems really long, but I remember not minding it that much. I still love the Metro North, too. Downloading episodes of The Bachelor basically got me through those train rides lol.

Also worth noting from this month is the really weird physical reaction I had to that pill that is supposed to change flavors from sour to sweet and from sweet to sour. To this day I have no idea what happened.

February/

My perfect, amazing, childhood dog of 17 years was put down. Trixie was the best dog ever (sorry, Tucker) and I miss her terribly! I had her since the time I was 6, and she lived to see me all the way out of the house. I always say she was like my little guardian angel <3

March/

And Maine! (Which we loved. It's one of the few places we would come back to the northeast for.)

April/

J got a huge, random cyst removed!

May/

My mom came to visit and we went to New York City and Boston and the Pez factory haha.

June/

After so much begging and also the stars aligning perfectly, we got Tucker!

July/

We moved into a new apartment closer to work and school. I'll post the location after we move. Now my commute is about an hour and a half, and J's commute to work is about 45 minutes.

We went back to Utah for one of J's friend's weddings. Also I cut my bangs back and became my true self lol.

August/

I had a 2 hour breast reconstruction surgery under local anesthesia and it was by far the worst experience I have ever had. And I will still probably need another surgery in the future haha. These are things to consider before getting a breast reduction! I would still do it again though, because it is so nice to have smaller boobs, even if the journey has been longer than expected. (And don't give me $#!@ about my happy meal lol.)

Also, I found this baby squirrel on the grass outside our apartment and named him Jeffrey. When I sent a picture to J he said, "I saw that there yesterday. Freaky, huh?!" And I was like, "J IT IS ALIVE. ALWAYS POKE THINGS!" I made him a home until I could take him to a squirrel sanctuary. I have tried calling back to see how he is doing, and they haven't returned my calls. So we'll just assume he is alive and flourishing!

September/

I ended my old internship and started my new one like, a week later. I was supposed to have a few weeks off, but alas. Actually in general my experiences with NYU field placement have been really sour. Thank heavens the actual schooling part has been so so amazing or I would have a really bad taste in my mouth haha. I am in a really intense, 16 month program, but I have had to work over a lot of breaks and go over hours daily, which has made the whole thing a lot to handle. Needless to say I am very excited to be in my last semester!

October/

We took a day and explored Vermont. It was amazing and another place we would come back to the northeast for!

We had our best costume to date. Women's and Women's First Bookstore.

November/

J's family came to visit and we went into New York. I tried a steak for the first time in like 7 years and discovered I am not a steak person lol. Maybe I have just been veg for too long.

December/

We went to Ireland for Christmas! I accidentally shot all my pictures in JPEG instead of RAW and will probably never get over it lol.

This was a hard year, but a really good year! Grad school is so much harder than I could have imagined, but I am almost done and have been so happy with my academic experience at NYU. We have also learned we are total west coasters and have been really anxious to get back! But we did a lot of exploring and tried to make the best of our situation.

I'm excited for 2018! I keep telling J it will be the year our lives "truly" start haha. Either one or both of us have been in school since we got married almost 5 years ago! So, it will be so so fun for us both to just be working full time! We are also very excited to *hopefully* move to Seattle and rent a house with a nice backyard for Tuck haha. In 2018 I want to travel more and work toward getting my social work license to practice independently... and that's pretty much it for our goals! I'm not super into the whole "New Year's resolutions" as you can tell haha. But, I hope 2018 is as much fun for us as I hope it's going to be!
